NAPPN Newsletter - December 2019

PHENOME 2020 - Early Bird Registration ends this Thursday
The annual PHENOME conference is the largest and only conference in North America focused solely on plant phenomics. Anyone with an interest in plant phenotyping should consider attending. Each year at this conference, we hold our annual NAPPN General Assembly business meeting. This year the International Plant Phenotyping Network will also be holding their annual meeting at Phenome 2020.

The deadline for Early Bird Registration is December 5. That is also the deadline for talk abstract submission. Register now to save some dough. Register and submit abstracts here<https://phenome2020.org/>.

The date and location for the PHENOME 2020 Conference has been set for February 24-27 and will be held in downtown Tucson at the Tucson Convention Center (new hotel and conference venue).

We hope to see you there!

NAPPN 2020 Elections coming up
At the beginning of each year, NAPPN holds elections for its Executive Board. The Board is made up of representatives from both public and private organizations and represent the fields of plant biology, computational science and engineering. The 2020 board was elected last year, so the upcoming election will be for the 2021 board members. Elections will be held in January of this coming year.

The current board is made up of: Carolyn Lawrence-Dill (Chair), Chris Topp (Co-Chair), Charlie Messina, Jian Jin, David Ertl, Frank Dohleman and Andrew Leakey.

Next year's board will be composed of: Chris Topp (Chair), David Ertl, Frank Dohleman, Andrew Leakey, Tabare Abadie, Amy Tabb and Jennifer Clark.

The 2021 board will have openings for two industry and two academic biologist positions.

Refer to our by-laws http://nappn.plant-phenotyping.org/bylaws/ for more information on the voting process and be on the lookout for information regarding the nomination and election process in January in your email.

NAPPN's Early Career Award coming soon
This past year NAPPN awarded its first ever Early Career Scientist Award in phenomics. This winter we will once again be accepting nominations and applications. The winner will be announced at Phenome 2020.

Keep an eye out for more details on this award in the near future.

NAPPN's second annual survey coming soon
This past year we conducted our first annual phenotyping survey. The results of the survey were very helpful in informing NAPPN of the issues we should be addressing, and where the greatest needs of our membership lie. This winter we will again be sending out a survey to learn more of the memberships' needs. Results will be presented at Phenome 2020.

Keep an eye out for it in your inbox and please take a few minutes to fill it out.

NAPPN being registered as a 501(c)(3) organization
NAPPN is in the process of being set up as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This will give several benefits including allowing us to recognized as an official stand-alone organization, to receive funds and grants directly, and to operate as a tax-exempt entity.
